Name
: Cheung Siu Fai
English Name : Eddie
DOB : 2-4-1963
Occupation : Hmm... hard to guess... an actor maybe?
:) And a familyman
Companies : I think he only had contracts w/ TVB for
his TV series
Debut : Graduated from his TVB acting class in 1982
Eddie Cheung is my #4 favorite actor. Only Roger Kwok, Jimmy
Au, and Eddie Kwan precede him, still by a very close margin.
No matter what role he undertakes, I am almost always in love
with his character. His villain roles are easy to sympathize
with, and often very attractive. ^^
I liked his role from "The Black Sabre" because this
is one of my favorite series and he was quite memorable. Not
to mention that he looked wonderful with Margie!
First time I saw : Chu something (forget the name) in
"The Hunter's Prey." Not the most friendly role he
played, he was a villain. In fact, the next few series I saw
him in, he played antagonists. In "The Hunter's Prey"
though, he was a rather charming prince who outshined the lead
actors Canti & Gallen. It didn't help that Canti had a poofy
wig but that's besides the point. :)
Famous Role? : Can't say. Probably someone off of his
modern series. But if I had to name one from his ancient series...
perhaps Yip Hoi from "The Black Sabre?"
Interesting Note : With Eddie's 'prince-like' figure,
he portrayed many roles of royal family members. To start off,
he was a prince in "The Hunter's Prey." He was a Ming
emperor, although short-lived, in "Lung Ting Tsang Pa."
He played a Ching emperor twice, once as Yung Cheng in "The
Hitman Chronicles" and as Kin Lung in "The Emperor
& I." AND! He was also Lee Sai Mun (2nd Tang emperor)
in "Ancient Heroes." He also reprised this role in
"Road to Eternity", the exact same role. And most
recently, he starred in "Love is Beautiful" as a Sung
emperor. How's that for Your Highness, eh? ^^
Favorite Eddie : I have too many! I liked him in almost
every series I saw. But Kuk Yan in "All About Tin"
kind of stands out, since I was so busy laughing at his character.
He was one funny villain. He was kissed by the woman he loved,
and for 18 years, he never washed his face to "keep"
this mark. That's what that half mask he wears is all about
(well, he did have a burned face too). I wonder how his face
didn't rot away!
Disliked Eddie : None really -- but my least favorite
roles would be Tin Gwai Lung from "The Flying Fox 99"
and Lau Yeuk Chung from "Against the Blade of Honour."
But it didn't help that I really didn't like the series themselves
either.
Favorite Eddie Series : "The Black Sabre!"
His detective act was really humorous and heart-warming at times.
I also liked "Lung Ting Tsang Pa," but the ending
was spoiled for me because he died when he shouldn't have. "The
Emperor & I" and "Unnatural Born Killer"
had pretty cool characters too, played by him.
Disliked Eddie Series : "Against the Blade of Honour"
will always be on top of my "Worst Series" list. I
hated Louis, I hated Irene Wan even more. >_<
Favorite Eddie Pair : Need I repeat? Of course Eddie
and Margie Tsang. They collaborated in several series and were
paired up in many of them. They were together in "The Turbulent
Decade," "The Black Sabre," "Everybody Loves
Somebody," and both appeared in "The Saga of the Lost
Kingdom" and "Lung Ting Tsang Pa." Indeed a popular
couple back then.
Disliked Eddie Pair : That what's-her-name in "The
Hitman Chronicles" who killed him.
I want to see... : All of his modern series, particularly
"The Turbulent Decade" although it seems bloody long,
and "Everybody Loves Somebody" which is even longer.
"Plain Love" sounds good too.
