Review

There once was a time I thought this series was the best thing in the whole world. Maybe because this was the first series I ever saw officially and I loved it that much.

Although I grew out of all the silliness and comic reliefs this series gave me, it still ranks among the top on my list. Watched it a total of 3 times so far, more times to come. :)

Cast note -

Roger : Ah Yat - the cute older brother
Dicky : Ah Yuet - the witty younger brother
Carol : Ching Ching - Ah Yat's mucho violent girlfriend
Rain : Siu Dip - under arrest.. for stealing Ah Yuet's heart!
Lau Ka Fai : Yin Pin Tin - the slick (and over-aged) playboy with some awesome kung fu
Ng Wing Hung : Kong Ling - Yin Pin Tin's aggressive wife
Chan On Ying : Kiu Kiu - Ah Yat & Ah Yuet's scary older sister
Ng Kai Ming : Duen Fei - supposedly a handsome evil!

The way I see it -

There are many elements in this series that I could enjoy, but my favorite is still about the two funny brothers on their adventure. Roger Kwok & Dicky Cheung displayed such a cool chemistry as brothers, no wonder I still like both of them till this day.

If Mystery of the Twin Swords I had more emphasis on Ah Yat, this "sequel" - which isn't exactly a sequel, but rather, a continuation of the first story - definitely focused more on Ah Yuet and his love life. Ah Yuet's romance is at its peak after he gets rid of those two annoying sisters that stalked him in the previous. As you read above, Siu Dip is the one responsible for his happiness, devastation, heartbreak, etc etc... quite touching at some point.

Taking a glimpse -

Ah Yat's story

The wedding of Ah Yat & Ching Ching gets interrupted as some mysterious man (? more like a monster) flies in and kidnaps Ching Ching, claiming that he is the true fiancé of hers. Turns out that he had killed the man who was originally betrothed to Ching Ching and stole his key, the proof of the engagement. To settle this chaos, Ah Yat and Ah Yuet put on their chivalrous spirit and fly over to rescue their damsel in dress (and.. distress). They do kill the monster but as he dies, he laughs an evil laugh and says 'muahahaha, when the monster king resets into the world, ya'll be killed.'

When Ching Ching returns home safely, she suffers from the pain of the lock that was around her ankle.. because it keeps on getting bigger and bigger. Ah Yat, unable to withstand watching her in pain, asks Yin Pin Tin for help. Yin Pin Tin refers Ah Yat to some renowned doctor living in seclusion, named Lau. Lau tells Ah Yat that the only way to break that lock is to get the golden ax from the West Mountain. So he goes to the West Mt. with Ah Yuet and does sum'thin sum'thin to claim the ax... but when he pulls out the ax from its original spot, he lets 2 monsters escape. Who would've known this broke all the hell loose...

Ah Yuet's story

Dicky & Rain The Gold & Silver sisters who bugged him so much finally leave him to go back to their master, so he is free at last... well not really because when he goes to see Dr. Lau with Ah Yat, he meets the cutest girl of his life... Lau's daughter named Siu Dip.

After some fights here and there and mostly getting beaten up by Siu Dip, he is determined to make her his... but there is an intruder, a prince-charming, Duen Fei. Duen Fei seduces Siu Dip with his rich charm and magic carpet ride, making Ah Yuet look like a dumbass. Duen Fei then tries constantly to get rid of Ah Yuet and his brother because they are a threat to his fame.

After Ah Yuet cleverly escapes almost all of Duen Fei's traps, the 4 (Ah Yat, Ah Yuet, Duen Fei, and Siu Dip) all reunite at the West Mt.. Duen Fei too is after the golden ax and to claim the ax, he is even willing to kill Siu Dip. But in the end Ah Yat ends up getting the ax and Siu Dip is heavily disappointed with Duen Fei's bastard-ness. So she eventually falls in love with Ah Yuet... where the bigger ordeal would be waiting for the two.

Siu Dip's story

Her dad is Dr. Lau, her mom is a bird monster (actually more like a fairy but they're in the same family). Not Dicky & Rain knowing this, she grows up to be a quite energetic girl wondering what her mom is like. But when she finally meets her mom, she is grossed out by the fact that she too, would have ugly feathers and green fingernails of a peacock eventually. (esp. when she gets drunk).

Since her final love interest Ah Yuet is a monster-hunter, she is very afraid.. but Ah Yuet understands this. But around the time the head monster is about to reborn into the world, her craving for blood and acting more like a monster aggrevate. To help her out, Ah Yat and Ah Yuet try to cure her through Ching Ching (she supposedly has a lot of + energy). But Duen Fei interrupts this process and the two bodies get switched. Siu Dip's soul goes into Ching Ching's body and vice-versa.

Unable to endure the pain of breaking out, Ching Ching in Siu Dip's body commits suicide but Ching Ching's soul goes back to her body. In turn, Ching Ching's body ends up with two souls - of both Siu Dip and Ching Ching. Siu Dip decides to sacrifice for the owner of the body and dies, but her soul then goes into a bird. Ah Yuet wanders around in despair after her death. It's a happy ending nonetheless, Siu Dip relives and ends up being with Ah Yuet, just not in the form anyone would expect...

Laughable scenes for the ones who've seen it -

#1. After Dicky's walking nightmares - the Gold & Silver sisters - leave him and go back to their master, Dicky does a really funny celebration dance in his backyard. Actually he does many celebration dances (simply put, some weird body twisting involved) throughout the series but this one is the funniest.

#2. Dicky regenerates the scene of Rain & Ng Kai Ming taking a carpet ride. He grabs a big and thick carpet, has his servants hold each corner of it, has his sister dress up like Rain and talks all sweetly... until his servants get tired and drop them on the floor. For a moment I thought Chan On Ying really looked like Rain. ^^

#3. Everything about Ng Wing Hung giving a fake birth to her babies.. ehem.. turtles.

#4. Canon in D for a background music... when Kiu Kiu falls under a spell and believes that she is in love with Yin Pin Tin, she follows him around day and night.. in the end there were dark circles under their eyes and their hair was a big mess.

*Note - I thought Ng Kai Ming was Lawrence Ng. Can really tell the resemblance can't we...

The themesong is sung wonderfully by Dicky, called "Jan jan ga ga." Jimmy Lin sang it in Mandarin, but as with most things, the original is slightly better. :)
