Review

This was Jimmy's very first series as a main character. The series is mainly about 3 siblings, each with different adventure stories to tell, weaving their lives and reuniting to avenge for their parents. My memory of this series is very vague, so special thanks to Kathy Tram for providing me the summary. =D

Characters

  • Bak Jin Man (Au Wai Len)
He is the oldest of the threesome. Perhaps the only one with a happy ending?
  • Bak Yuk Ying (Yung Wai Mun)
She is the middle one, the one who possesses cold blood warm heart. ^^
  • Bak Jin Mo (Jimmy Au Sui Wai)
He is the youngest. He gets in very complex relationships with multiple girls, although he only likes one girl.
  • Hung Chun Yu (Lai Han Chi)
The evil puppeteer in this series dealing with all sorts of conspiracies.
  • Bak Fung Tin (Kenneth Tsang Kong)
He is the father of the three siblings. He was condemned for a heinous murder and was executed by the martial world.
  • Su Lo Lady + the Mother (Lui Yau Wai)
The mother of the threesome, and her twin younger sister. Su Lo Lady was originally engaged to Bak Fung Tin, but Yee Mun later captured his heart, thus she was out of the picture. This made her bitter and in turn, led her to help Hung Chun Yu destroy Fung Tin's family.
  • Hung Chor Gun (Ng Sin Mei)
Jin Mo's love interest, but the ending is rather sad.
  • Some smart woman (Carrie Choi Ka Lei)
She was the 3rd person interfering in Sheung Kwan Yut & Bak Yuk Ying's romance. She was really smart in here and helped Jin Mo a lot in figuring out who the real murderer was.
  • Sheung Kwan Yut (Wong Wun Choi)
    Bak Yuk Ying's love interest.

The series started off with the Bak family being hunted down by the people of the martial art world. They are a well-known family and consist of 5 members: the father--Bak Fung Tin (Kenneth Tsang), the mother, and their 3 children: Jin Man, Yuk Ying, and Jin Mo. Fung Tin was said to have murdered the leaders of 4 powerful sects, so the head of the martial art world ordered that his whole family be killed.

Fung Tin and his wife sacrificed their lives to protect their 3 childeren. As a result, they both died, yet all of the children managed to escaped. But while running away, they all got separated from one another. The oldest son, Jin Man, was chased off to a cliff and he fell down. Luckily, a wild, "forest man" at the bottom of the cliff saved him, but Jin Man has lost his memory due to the fall. He then lived with the man and the man taught him his kung-fu. Later on, Jin Man met this woman who was known as "Su Lo Lady". This woman looked exactly like his mother, and that was because she happened to be her twin sister. Jin Man sees her as his real mother though (since he has lost his memory and didn't remember that his mother has already passed away).

The daughter, Bak Yuk Ying, was rescued by an old man who was a close friend of her father. He healed her wounds and took her in as his student. Out of the 3 children, Yuk Ying was the one with the hottest flame for revenge burning in her heart. So after she has learned the kung-fu she needed, Yuk Ying began to set out to kill all the sects' leaders who took part in the tragedy of her family. But then her fate was probably the most dramatic one as well, compared to that of her 2 brothers... The kung-fu that Yuk Ying practiced didn't allow her to have any affection for men. Yet later on, she met this young man named Sheung Kwan Yut and gradually fell in love with him. This caused Yuk Ying to have to pay a dear price, which eventually led her to her tragic ending.

And Jin Mo... he went past this bridge and by chance, entered the "Forbidden Area", a place where he met his teacher and found the 2 most precious pieces of weapons, Sun Gim (Sword) and Mo Do (Sabre). His teacher taught him kung-fu and afterwards, Jin Mo re-entered the world of martial art and went to his uncle's house to get the 3 pieces of evidences that can prove his parents' innocence. During his adventure, he met 2 good friends and a charming girl named Hung Chor Gun. Chor Gun is the daughter of a powerful man, Hung Chun Yu. She loved Jin Mo with all her heart, sacrificing everything she could for him. Jin Mo also loved her very much, but he seemed to always put revenge on the top of his priority list.

Later on, Jin Mo and Yuk Ying reunited with each other. They eventually discovered that the people behind the murders of the 4 sects' leaders were actually Chun Yu and Su Lo Lady. The reason was because Chun Yu has always been jealous of their father's good reputation, so he wanted to ruin it, and Su Lo Lady helped him simply because she was his lover. But by this time, Jin Man was already under full influence of this evil woman, and it took Yuk Ying and Jin Mo a very long time to get their brother back on their side. Finally, they succeeded, and so the 3 of them began to team up to avenge for their parents.

The ending was not a happy one. Jin Mo killed Chun Yu in the final battle, and because of this, Chor Gun refused to be with him any longer. As for Su Lo Lady, she committed suicide while being captured by the Bak brothers. Yuk Ying's romance with Sheung Kwan Yut has caused her hair to turn all white, and she ended up being killed by the head of the martial art world, who was a zombie controlled by Chun Yu. Only Jin Man had a decent ending--he and his girlfriend, Sum Biq, were together after all the obstacles they have been through. The closing scene showed Jin Mo running in the prairie, calling out loud Chor Gun's name... but she was nowhere to be found, and only the wind answered his heartbroken cry.

Kathy's Personal Comments

I thought this is an EXCELLENT series--very worthy of watching. Yung Wai Mun's performance as Bak Yuk Ying was awesome. You can really see the cold expression on her face, yet sympathize with her character so much as well! Jimmy also did a wonderful job... it's just that I thought he was a little mean in that one part when he misunderstood his lover to have stolen his sword to help her father. The actor who played Bak Jin Man was cool too... Overall, the entire cast was just plain marvelous. And also, I really like the themesong of this series--it was a very sad melody that just breaks your heart every time you hear it being played as the background music.
