Review

Sing (Ekin) and Kit (Savio) are old time buddies who grew up together. Sing is a policeman who is on a verge of being bored out of his mind, so he applies for a position in CID to pursue more challenging life. Kit on the other hand is a highly ambitious lawyer getting somewhere in his career.

Kit's ex-girlfriend is Kwan (Maggie) who works as a prosecutor. After Sing gets accepted into CID, he tries to bring down a drug lord Sum (Jimmy) who has been convicted continuously. Everytime Kwan tries to prosecute Sum, she is blocked by Kit's dirty defense. Kit is actually trying to ask for Kwan's forgiveness for whatever reason they broke up for, but naturally going against her out in a public court wouldn't do much to his favor.

Sing's girlfriend is Mun (Leung Pui Wu) who has been and is strongly against Sing being in CID. When Sing hesitates to drop out, she angrily leaves to New Zealand by herself, not setting any definite future. Later when she comes back she tries to get back together with him but by then, Sing has already been close to Kwan and things seem pretty hopeless.

Sing's colleague is Fai (Alex) who gets emotional very easily and acts rashly at many times. Fai first dislikes Sing and doesn't cooperate with him but later they get pretty close. Fai's uncle gets badly injured by Sum's gang and Fai's girlfriend, Candy (Chan Mui Hing), tries to help him earn enough money for the surgery by gambling. She loses all her money in turn and Sum offers to help her out in return for a favor. Candy testifies for Sum's innocence in court for what she owes, and Sum is off the hook again. Fai gets injured during a shootout with Sum's mafia and eventually driven out of the force as it is revealed that he suffers from epilepsy. He later works for the master evil but a seemingly kind-hearted businessman Ho (Lam Seung Mo) and eventually dies in the end trying to protect Ho after he is convicted.

Kit is hired to work as Ho's lawyer for some time being, getting Ho out of many unlawful deeds. This worsens Kit's relationship with his friend Sing and mostly, Kwan. Kit succeeds in winning the heart of Lai (Cheung Fong Nei) who happens to be Ho's younger sister, to upgrade his status. Lai strongly believes that Kit is in love with her but when she finds out later that Kit's love interest is only Kwan in reality, she shoots him and makes him go paralyzed from his waist down (Poor Sav T_T). She later shows up at Sing & Kwan's marriage and creates a scene and tries to kill Kwan but guess what happens with all of Sing's cop friends there... la la la.

Jimmy as Sum was a...

...very messed up character who messed up many people's lives, mostly Fai's. Serves him right that he gets killed by his boss Ho later. Tsk tsk. With the kind of role like a drug lord, who would've ever known him as a heroic figure in the series like The Grand Canal...although I must say, him in pursuit of Candy was quite funny.

Note: Ekin and Maggie were purposely casted together in this series by TVB after openly admitting that they were dating. They were one of the most celebrated couples in the 90's until their breakup in '99. Click on their wedding pic below.. not for reals of course, in the series! =D
