This is a very bizarre series set in a bizarre time and place, and
also among 10+ collaborations of Eddie Kwan and Jimmy Au. Escaping
the general routine of Eddie-Jimmy series, this is the only series
starring the two actors where Eddie is the bad guy and Jimmy is
the good guy, not vice-versa.
The entire martial world is after this one powerful kung fu booklet
from a country called Ka-Lom. Susanna is the daughter of an important
official in that country and one day, she meets Patrick who came
after the kung fu booklet. As she fell in love with him, she betrayed
her father and her country by handing over the booklet to Patrick
and escaping with him. After they escaped safely and got married,
Patrick only devoted his time and energy to practicing the kung
fu, thereby neglecting his wife. Angry by this, she left him not
realizing that she was bearing his child. She decides that as
a revenge, she'd breed her child evil to go against Patrick's
justice-guarding self-righteousness.
As Susanna had planned, Eddie (her son) grew up very evil. He
does not know that Susanna is his birth mother, he only knows
and serves her as his master. He learned kung fu from her and
all the other evil deeds, and he thinks very lowly of those around
him. As he turns 19, he is set to marry a pretty girl from his
rival household, Maggie. Maggie highly detests him so on their
wedding night, with the help of her godfather and father, she
escapes - but in the process, she falls off a cliff. Eddie is
held a captive at Maggie's household but he is not killed so he
can face the humiliation of being captured.
Maggie is then discovered by Jimmy's older sister. Jimmy is Patrick's
adored disciple and he is a very righteous guy. Maggie is struck
with an amnesia as she cannot remember her past, and in the midst
of this chaos, she falls in love with Jimmy. Jimmy and Eddie somehow
form a twisted, special friendship where Eddie has a leverage
- so even though Jimmy doesn't like Eddie for being so evil, he
ends up helping Eddie in crucial times.
Jimmy however, already has someone in mind - he coincidentally
saw Eugina, who happens to be a dancer at Eddie's household. But
since he feels somewhat responsible for Maggie, he decides to
look after her. Eugina actually has a crush on her owner, Eddie,
and she helps him escape from Maggie's household. After Eddie
regains enough power to go fight against Maggie's household, he
attacks her, kidnaps her and violates her. This happened on Maggie
& Jimmy's wedding day and because she is so ashamed, she hides
from Jimmy.
Later on, Maggie is pregnant with Eddie's child and after giving
birth to the baby, she hands him over to Eugina and leaves. Eddie
is starting to like Eugina now because she is devoted to him.
Towards the end of the series, Eugina even becomes crippled trying
to protect him. Maggie and Jimmy reunite and after some troublesome
times, their relationship becomes more solid - even though he
had liked Eugina at some point.
Susanna is still dead set on having his son kill his own father,
but when the idea is actually carried out and Eddie kills Patrick
accidentally, Susanna goes insane. She is also manipulated by
her "boyfriend" - Gu Hung - living in her palace. Gu
Hung is a very evil man. She dies eventually because of him. Eddie
is terrified to learn that she was actually his mother and becomes
very confused.
Meanwhile, Maggie is still planning her revenge on Eddie for
everything he did to her and her family, but Eddie and Jimmy end
up working together to get rid of Gu Hung. With Maggie's help,
they are able to kill Gu Hung off, but in the process, Eddie gets
severely injured and dies.
The last scene shows Maggie and Jimmy happily walking away. I'm
not sure what happened to her baby; I think Eugina was looking
after him because he is Eddie's son.

This series has a lot of provocative and perverted scenes - I
think it actually went out of its way to create some disturbing
images about killing and rape and violence. I'm not too critical
about the costumes and hairdo's, because being a Jimmy Au fan
means withstanding bad hairstyles in every series but a few.
This is just a very average series, and definitely not for Maggie
fans because she is such a weak screaming girl almost the entire
series that one cannot help but to feel sorry for her. Lots of
love triangles, psychotic characters, and strange things happening.
The director of this series also did "Brothers Under the
Skin" (I believe) starring Felix Wong and Sheren Tang. He also directed "New Dragon Gate Inn" (Taiwanese series) in 1997-ish, starring Steve Ma, Roger Kwok, and Eddie Kwan!
