FAQ'S (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

Here are some questions people ask me regarding my site, roughly in the order of frequency. I've also added some imaginary questions that I thought people might ask.

Last updated: July 17th, 2004

DON'T TAKE MY IMAGES/REVIEWS OFF THIS SITE TO USE ON YOUR SITE WITHOUT PERMISSION.

01. When are you going to update?

I try to update as often as I can. When I don't update for a long period of time, that either means I'm extremely busy with school/work or I am terribly unmotivated. As of September 2002, I have my boyfriend, Mike, to keep me busy. ^_^ I miss working on the site but I miss him more.

02. When are you going to finish a review (or a special) on OOO (series name)?

Depends on whether I'm still in the mood to write. Heh.

03. Could you do a guestopia on OOO (actor name)?

If I like that person, I will eventually get to him/her even if it takes lifetime. :)

04. You should add more stuff on Eddie Kwan/Jimmy Au.

It's nice to know someone else who likes Eddie/Jimmy! I'm working on it, but it's not too easy to get a hold of his pictures, series info, news, etc.. I will make my best attempt though.

05. Your design is not very good.

I get this a lot. Blah! You can suggest what amendments I should make and I will try to adopt them. But the important thing is, I am not sure if I care. Not at the moment anyway. I know that a good site comes with content + design, but I am striving for a mediocre site. ^^ As long as the site loads fast and is easy to navigate, I will not focus on the design for now.

06. Do you only do series reviews/galleries on the 80's and 90's series?

Nope, I try to do as many as I can regardless of the time period. However, I do tend to focus on the 80's and early 90's a little more.

07. Could you have more pictures for OOO (series and/or actor name)?

I must say, I scan EVERYTHING I have the first time around when I do galleries. So if you see no more pictures, that means I have no more unless I *miraculously* stumble across something in my collection that I did not scan. Sorry. =*(

08. Your reviews are biased.

Welcome to the real world! *Waves hand.* I'm not a professional critic, and even professionals write biased reviews. I write reviews for my own enjoyment, and although I attempt to avoid comments that might offend people, it's not always easy to get around. If you think my reviews are biased, you are more than welcome to send me a review of your own. It will be added in no time. =)

09. You dissed my favorite actor/actress in your reviews!

That, I can attest to, is SO NOT TRUE. I do NOT diss actors outright. I might diss the "characters" they played, the costumes they wore, or their overall outer appearance in certain series, but not the actors themselves. There is a difference there. Not having likeable characters or good costumes are not the actors' fault, so it should be seen as my blaming the producers or the script writers. Plus, I never comment on anybody's acting unless it was absolutely stunning in my eyes. Please don't force me to like your favorites, as I am not forcing you to like mine. (I know more people who hate Eddie Kwan than the ones who like him. Haha)

10. Could you do a series review on OOO (series name)?

Under two circumstances, I will. 1. If I have seen the series, I will write about it. 2. If I have not seen the series, but have sufficient info to write about it, I will do a review on it.

11. Some links are broken.

Thank you. I will fix them ASAP.

12. I can't get into your site.

Possible reasons might be: A) My server is doing funky stuff. Please try again later. B) Your computer is doing funky stuff. I can't help with that one. Hmm. C) I took the page down for a maintenance (which happens). In that case, it will be back up shortly. D) None of the above. Sorry, I do not know!

13. Your spellings for many character names are wrong.

I know. I don't know Cantonese at all, so I just guess many of them.

14. Why did you close down your site instead of leaving it up, even if you weren't updating?

I get this one a lot. The first reason was because my host, ADDR.com, ripped me off and I had no desire to continue doing business with them. Secondly, I was heavily disappointed with people who would direct-link my pictures against my will, affecting my bandwidth that I paid for. And not to mention picture-stealers. I thought about putting my logo on every single image, but the task seemed cumbersome and in the end, I was just fed up.

Although I've had other minor accomplishments in my life, this site is my big pride and joy. I have never spent so much time and effort consistently on one thing as I did for this one. It was never meant to be popular (I'd like the quite opposite in fact) - all I ever wanted was a small site dedicated to my favorite actors and television series from the 80's to entertain my close friends online. When my life got hectic and I could no longer find the time to take care of the site, I thought it'd be best to take it down, regroup, and come back with a better version. When it remained online for months without any updates, it served as a distraction in my mind everytime I came across it. It needed the attention it deserved. It needed to be taken care of, which I couldn't do. This made me very sad.

This site does not exist for anyone but myself and a few of my very supportive friends. When it stopped making me happy, its existence lost purpose.

Bonus one by LT: How come you used Eddie Kwan & Eddie Cheung's picture for your site, when your site revolves around Jimmy & Eddie K more?

This refers to the very first banner I had for this site. I would have loved to use a pic of Eddie K & Jimmy... but I suck at merging pictures, plus I needed something natural, i.e. two guys standing together like good friends. ^^ I couldn't find any picture of Jimmy and Eddie K together like that... so I used Eddie C (who is my favorite as well) and Eddie K instead.

A little spill about being "hosted"

Since quite a few people have asked me about whether I pay for my site, I've decided to take some time and space to answer the q's.

My site has evolved from sitting on Geocities (blech!), Eccentrix (which I was satisfied with, but they have popup ads now), then I ran out of space so I decided to purchase a domain and be hosted. My choice was Addr.com. Aside from its non-existing customer support, this host was all right - but they screwed up my bill so I left.

As for the rate, it was $8.95/mo for my package (100MB space, 2GB bandwidth, FTP, & support for CGI/PERL, PHP, etc). They've since redesigned their packages and have better customer support, but I still won't go back to them.

My CURRENT host is ICDSoft.com. They are wonderful. I pay $5/mth ($60/yr up front) for 333MB space, FTP, MySQL database, PHP support, and a whole lot more. Visit their page and check it out! Plus they have the world's greatest customer support department, who can answer your question within minutes.

Anyway, the point is that if web building is your serious hobby, go with the hosting. What's $10 a month compared to what you spend on movies?
